The Scottish producer talks music and kit from his London base...
 |
Hailing from Scotland, producer Mylo broke out into public view with his awesome track 'Wolves of Miami'. Released to a bucket load of acclaim, the track picked up major play from Pete Tong and took Mylo's label Breastfed to a whole new level. OneMusic caught up with him on his return from Miami to ask him how he makes his music...

"Both tracks were made about a year previously in Pro Tools Free" |
When did you release your first record and what did you make it on?
My first release was a 7 inch double A-side "Destroy Rock'n'Roll" / "Sunworshipper" in April 2003. Both tracks were made about a year previously in Pro Tools Free (a very basic 8 mono-audio track version of Pro Tools, downloadable from digidesign's website for nowt). The synth parts were created on a free demo version of Absynth (a software synthesizer program, also downloadable). I did this on a second-hand iMac which I bought in 2001 for about £350. That was the only recording cost, come to think of it. I've bought a lot of gear since then, though, honest.

Did you sit down to make your album in one go or is it a collection of tracks you've made over a longer period?
Definitely the latter, the tracks which eventually made it on to the CD were made between early 2002 and late 2003. I did a lot of music in that period. Some of the stuff which isn't on the CD might make it out in the future. Most of it will go in the Breastfed archive and stay there where it belongs.
