Melt Banana Updated: 08/12/05
We talk to Japanese band Melt Banana about touring Europe

Alongside Yako on vocals, Melt Banana are Rika on bass, guitarist Agata and new drummer Takiya Terada.  Yako was the talkative one while everyone else sipped their hot chocolate. They thought very highly of the man who supported them from the very beginning, John Peel.

"In the US a guy brought us a Melt Banana pizza! It was more a cake, but it looked like a pizza, it actually tasted great!"
Give us the low down...
Yako: 'We started making music in 1993, I met Agata and Rika in school and we started the band.  Us 3 have always been the line up, but we've had 6 different drummers over the years!  We chose the name Melt Banana in 1994.'

Why Melt Banana?
'The name just popped up in our head, we knew we wanted a pop name in English.  I was talking with Agata, he suggested Banana, because of Andy Warhol.  I said "how about Melt, I don't know why Melt, but it works!"  In the US when we toured, a guy brought us a Melt Banana pizza!  It was more a cake, but it looked like a pizza, it actually tasted great!'
