Band: This Is The Kit

This Is The Kit Updated: 19/01/06
Unsigned artist Kate Stables records her first Maida Vale session.

Kate Stables first came to our attention in 2005 as part of one of Rob da Bank's favourite unsigned finds, Whalebone Polly. Towards the end of the year we received a CD of solo music from her under the title This Is The Kit. Her track 'With Her Wheels Again' was played repeatedly on OneMusic so we just had to have her in session. Kate talked to us from her home in Paris.

'I try and record it as quick as I can so I don't forget how it goes.'
You sent us a whole album's worth of material, how much time did it take to put together?
'Not much time really. Some of the songs were old left over ones, but quite few of them I'd just written a week or so before. I recorded it while I was staying in a friend's flat in Paris as we'd just moved here and hadn't found anywhere to live yet, so thought we might as well get some recording done.'

How does the writing process start for This Is The Kit?
'What normally happens is I take some of the words that I'm always scribbling down and join it up with some bit of music I've written - make up a tune of course, and then I try and record it as quick as I can so I don't forget how it goes.'
