Britain's new musical heroes. They come from Battle and don't do guitars.

Keane are proud to be British. "Britain throws up good music all the time," insists Tim Rice-Oxley, song-writer/pianist and a man rather pi**ed off with bands trying to adopt American accents. "We have a great musical heritage. Bands shouldn't be ashamed of their roots - being proud of where you come from should be part of your vibe." |

Home is...
For the record, Keane come from Battle, a small town outside of Hastings in Sussex. It's somewhat more famous for being the place where good King Harold got it in the eye back in 1066, rather than as a source of music inspiration. Until now. 'Somewhere Only We Know,' the trio's first single on a major label, is a glorious piano-led paean to the trio's home town. |
...where the inspiration is
"Battle's definitely informed our music," says Keane's golden-haired singer Tom Chaplin, fondly. "It's a sleepy town and there isn't much going on there but to us it's home." Adds Tim: "When I write, I tend to think about places around where we grew up and where we used to hang out when we were kids - and still do. It's nice to think that when people hear 'Somewhere...' they think of a place special to them." Bless.
