Scottish tykes Idlewild know all about the hard slog to get noticed and get paid. Session In Scotland Presenter Vic Galloway got the lowdown on how the band funded themselves and what it felt like to be played on Radio 1 for the first time.

What was it like when you first started out?
We were just doing it for a laugh but we just wanted to see what it would be like to get on a stage and play. It was only a year later that we realised we actually had a few songs so we decided to form a band. After five rehearsals we found a kind of chemistry.

When did you know that you wanted to devote 100 per cent to the band?
There was never really a point. Even when we had a record out we were still in a bit of a daze when it came to realising that we could do this all the time and make a living out of it. It's only in the last year that I've realised that Im a professional
