Glaswegian four-piece Part Chimp started out with one definite aim in mind. "Make lots of noise!" laughs guitarist Tim Cedar. They've been doing just that since 2002 and have released two albums to date, the intriguingly titled 'Chart Pimp' and their second, 'I Am Come' on Mogwai's Rock Action label. They tell OneMusic about how they manage to be so, well, goddamn loud.
|
"No-one manages to sound louder than Johnny on drums!" |
So, how do Part Chimp manage to sound so heavy?
Iain (guitar) "There's a certain kind of bassness to our sound - it's simple. People over complicate it all the time. We're each trying to sound louder than everyone else and no-one manages to sound louder than Johnny on drums and because he plays so loud, we play louder!"
|
You have huge amps - do they go all the way up to eleven?
Iain: "There's a lot of clichés about the loudness - but that's just how we sound. The Swans were a loud band, as were Black Sabbath and Led Zep, they all had huge amplifiers but mainly it's about attitude."
Ok - on a scale of 1 to 10..
Iain: "There's a scale where we're never gonna get loud enough -although if we could be as loud as the band in Hitchikers Guide To The Galazy - 'Disaster Area', so loud that we destroy planets, then that would be cool..."
