The story of one of the most influential bands of the 20th century Listen to the doc Have your say
The New York Dolls gave Malcolm Mclaren the idea to start the Sex Pistols and they courted controversy and tragedy throughout their short Seventies career.
Beset by drug abuse and alcoholism, this documentary is the story of the rock and roll band that gave meaning to the live fast die young mantra.
With sprayed-on leopard print spandex and Marge Simpson hair the Dolls made the peace’n’love hippy world of the American 70s look like merchant bankers and librarians, and inspired wannabe musicians to pick up guitars and form bands, from Blondie and The Ramones, to glam metal bands like Kiss.
Roni travels from the community centres of Derry, Northern Ireland to the pirate radio stations of East London to hear how young people are overcoming their backgrounds and carving out a career in music.
