I haven't heard of anything this big. It's all happening up North and in London. There are cities where big bands are forming. Down in the South, all we have is Help She Can't Swim! and anyone other than that has moved to London (although Brighton/South East has produced some big bands). There is certainly a lot happening around Hampshire, but then again, isn't there something happening everywhere?

I think DIY has been around for ages, bands have always botched together their own recordings and tried to promote theirselves.
However, I think the difference with Leeds is that all the bands are friends, and have more of a 'healthy competition' and help eachother out. Whiskas (DTTR) isn't a bigshot record label owner, he's one of the band's kind with an upcoming band himself. I think that this has helped to make the Leeds scene stronger as bands are able to go on tour together and they are all getting better known through force, rather than their own seperate efforts.
I can see in other towns and cities, bands have been stronger inspired to release their own singles, eps etc because of the Leeds breakthrough, but without the same support and alliances that is found in Leeds I think it will be harder for these bands to suceed.
