Great Brits - Scotland

Franz Ferdinand

To celebrate this week's Brit Awards, we're giving you five days of British music on Radio 1.

We want you to tell us about your favourite British acts - and we're doing it by region.

Neo is The One
franz ferdinan is the best. the others suck

kezza!!
gotta be the snow patrol and travis and if they ever refromed...the reindeer section!! wee rule!! lol!!

Yvonne
KT Tunstall @ The Barrowlands - EXCELLENT! A very talented lady and brilliant live!

Stuart
jesus & mary chain for a bit of feedback

geraint
Teenage Fanclub produce more genuine pop classics on every album than some of the artists mentioned here have in their career. Bandwagonesque, Grand Prix and Howdy! are all packed FULL of effortless greats.

Batson
Deacon Blue.

Fudge
Primal Scream & the Beta Band are boomin!

Eamon Byrne
Idlewild are far and away the best Scottish band. They cover all bases from their grungey early work to their more mellow sound on Warnings/Promises...and its all been great!!!

willy
el presidente are THE scottish band of the moment. dante gizzi is the absolute epitome of entertainment while thomas mcneice is a god like genius on that gee-tar!

Simple Minds
Still going strong after nearly 30 years, still making great music and putting on great gigs, as seen by many on the current sell out tour, still no airplay even in the "greatest british bands/music!!" oh well!!

MYLO
excellent makes 80's pop pap sound good brilliant live and actually gets what dance music is supposed to be not a happy hardcore in sight

Lis
Biffy Clyro are just amazing! Very talented guys

Kate
Texas is simply the best! In this year they celebrate 20 years! WOW and they're still rocks! Congratulations!

mailla
texas definitely, great band with different sounds! always been around for 20 years now, it's quite rare to salute them ! also travis, franz, KT tunstall, snow patrol and bagpipes music !! :)

CHANCER
Texas(more Radio 1 airplay..please) Franz Ferdinand,K T Tunstall El Presidente all representing the Scottish music scene brilliantly!

Texas
Great music, great people, they are a guarantee for a good night out when you go and see them!

Me
Texas is the best band I've ever heard

Joe
Gotta be Biffy Clyro - a wonderful marriage of metal and indie (ahhhhh)

Noni
Franz Ferdinand are great, but other great Scottish bands/musicians include: Sons & Daughters, Malcolm Middleton (& Arab Strap), King Creosote, Beta Band (sadly missed), Boards of Canada, and many more. The Scottish music scene is fantastic at the moment - check it out.

Leanne Tait
Franz Ferdinand and Snow Partol are the two best ever scottish bands!

katie ruth liddell
texas is a great band and so are travis i like their music especially like texas's new song with peter kay called sleep

zoe
kt tunstal is the best new act around from scotland, snow patrol, texas and travis are brilliant but you cant beat annie lennox(legend) and of course the proclaimers TUNE! scotland totally rocks for music!

Hamish McTaggart
TRAVIS!!!!! franz ferdinand, idlewild, snow patrol, kt tunstall, belle and sebastian, the proclaimers (Please play them all!)

Amy Robertson
KT Tunstall is amazing, as are snow Patrol and Belle and Sebastien and Franz of course. But please radio1 play El Presidente!!

Gordon
I'm loving a new band from out glasgow way called the Dykeenies. Great sound and i expect they will be huge

Dirk Faes
Texas is the best band of the last two decades. Lots of different influences and styles, but all brought in a perfect and in their own way. And Sharleen certainly has it all to be the leader of this top band.

gonnae no
top band of all time have got to bbe the mighty Arab Strap. Belle and Sebastian come in at a close second. Arab Strap are probably the most underrated band in britain today, with each album they get better and they are amazing live. by the way Snow Patrol are actually from Northern Ireland, they just happen to live in Glasgow, great band though.

Alex Johnston
Snow Patrol are my favourite band. the music is beautifully written and the lyrics are heartfelt and Genuine! every song is unique and every ablum brillient and progressive from the previous one. great songs from great talents with great voices

Carol Brown
Travis reignited my passion for music thats been there since i was 10 (I'm 40 in 2 weeks- help) Saw them play Aberdeen in 2002 and have followed them round Scotland since. They come alive on stage and their pleasure is obvious. I've been to more gigs in the last couple of years(Oasis,Doves,Feeder, Embrace, Idlewild) than in my life and I owe this to Travis. And another stunner from Glasgow- ElPresidente- Radio 1 you have seriously got to get into this band!

megan huntley
franz are the best band ever becos theyv got a great image great music and theyr fae glasgow whay!!!

Travis
Cant wait for their summer comeback

KT Tunstal
KT is a class act was brilliant live at the Barrowlands in Glasgow few months back! True Scottish chick!

Travis
superb band, underrated talent. Fantastic performance at Isle of Wight Festival 2005 replacing Morrissey at last minute.

Mo
Best band on the planet is Biffy Clyro, even better that they're Scottish too! Other's worth a mention are; Franz Ferdinand, Belle & Sebastian, Idlewild, Primal Scream, Dogs die in Hot Cars & Snow Patrol. Bay City Rollers' Shang a Lang never goes a miss either!

Belle and Sebastian
They've been voted Scotland's Number One band, above Franz Ferdinand, Snow Patrol and Idlewild, yet still they get very little National airplay. They are such talented but humble people, with great lyrics, catchy tunes and a fantastic live performance. They have a huge global following, yet I still can't see why they aren't played on Radio one.

stuart john mcgrath
travis primal scream belle and sebastian franz ferdinand idlewild
