Updated 20 July 2001
The Radio 1 Love Weekend kicked off in traditional Friday night style with Pete Tong's Essential Selection live from the trendy new Sea club on Newcastle's buzzing Quayside. Later on he was joined by the ever funky Danny Rampling, and between them there was a whole lotta 'love' going down

Down on the Quayside, the latest addition to Newcastle's expanding club scene, Sea, opened its doors to an expectant crowd of eager Love Weekenders, keen to start the evening off in true style by enjoying sets from Pete Tong & Danny Rampling...

"They can take away the parade, but they can't take away the love!" proclaimed Pete Tong as he opened up the Essential Selection live from Sea...

Dropping some of the favourite tracks of the moment, including 'Vaioo' by Rapture, 'Bedford St.' by Hacktan O'Nal, 'Lovely Day' by Brancaccio & Asher and of course... 'Meet Her At The Love Parade 2001'

...next up was a live PA from Mutiny UK, performing their excellent, former Essential New Tune 'The Virus'

The crowd loved it, but they weren't just here to hear Pete and Danny...

The show also included a special Hot Mix from Newcastle's very own Shindig residents, Scott & Scooby. The duo dropped some seriously funky house in the form of Joeski & Chris' 'El Amor' and King Unique's, soon to be huge, 'Dirty'

Pete finishes of the Essential Selection with a Hot Mix featuring the best of his deep and devastating records before welcoming his good friend Mr. Rampling onto the decks to continue the evening with the Love Groove Dance Party...
Danny continues the evening with some more funky, uplifting tunes including 'Bring The Funk' by CZR & Ito, 'Why Can't You Free Some Time' by Ghandi Khan and the excellent 'Finally' by Kings Of Tomorrow'.

Although the cry of 'WHISTLE POSSE!' hasn't been heard for some time, this guy brought his anyway!

The night ended with a special Hot Mix from Bed regular and all round pale DJ, Tom Wainwright. Some choice cuts from his set were; 'In The Music' by Deepswing and 'The Miami Massive EP'
