Judge Jules and Fergie at Tuxedo Princess
Updated 21 July 2001

Like a boat on the river, it rocked! Rammed to the rafters and hotter than a hot thing on a very hot day, Jules had the sweaty crowd swinging from the mast of the Tuxedo Princess, only for Fergie to come on and really push them overboard!

Tuxedo Princess

The Radio 1 Love Boat, aka Tuxedo Princess, has one of the best locations in Newcastle, moored directly under the Tyne Bridge. Judge Jules and Fergie were captaining the ship for the evening and Newcastle's noisiest clubbers crammed the dancefloor from start to finish.

suzanne

Suzanne from Forby: "I've come to see Judge Jules. I follow him everywhere. I go to see him in Cream, in Ibiza, I went to see him at the Dance Party in Southport and I've just seen him now... I started shaking. I listen to him every weekend before I go out"

The Judge

Judge Jules opened his show with 'Voodoo' by Chuck Coogan, then went on to blow the place apart with 'Riva' by Stringa, 'Skydive' by Freefall, 'Guitarra G' by G Club, 'Here I Come' by Talisman, 'Silence' by Taiko, 'Stay With Me' by Angelic, 'Soul Heaven' by Goodfellas, and of course, the awesome 'Starlight' by Superman Lovers. Needless to say...

The crowd went nuts

...The crowd went nuts to every tune

A right nutter

Paul from Whitley Bay told us all about the boat: "It's big, white and long... Oh yes, it's bangin'. The best night I've had here is the one that I don't remember. All I know is that I woke up beside a bin"

Amanda and her friends

Amanda from Washington: "The bars around the Quayside are really good. There's a great atmosphere. When me and all the girls go out we usually dance all night and flash our backsides every now and again. We just go totally wild!"

Jules on deck
Judge Jules soaking on deck: "As a DJ Newcastle is just on the cusp of where you'd drive to and where you'd insist your management flew you to. Two hundred and seventy miles though is pretty damned worth it, it's fantastic here today. It's roasting in there and I haven't brought a spare shirt, I'm soaking wet so I may have to hang my shirt out the window on the way to my next gig and hope that it dries in the wind"

On the boat

We asked Darren from Newcastle how he felt about the Parade being cancelled: I'm gutted about the Parade being off but you've gotta party on y'know. If you didn't think it was worth coming down just because there is no Parade then you'd better hold your head in shame. It's rocking"

Jules and Fergie

Fergie arrives and Jules quickly runs through his holiday snaps

Lindsay

Lindsay from Newcastle: "I'm going to stay here all night and tomorrow I'm going to head off to Sundissential, depending on how I'm feeling in the morning. It could be a mad one. It's great here tonight, I hope people can really get the atmosphere on the radio because Fergie is really kickin' in here"

Fergie

Young Fergie blasted the adoring crowd away with a typically stunning set including a 'God's Child' accapella, 'Dark Rhythms' by Blackout, and a rather tasty new mix of 'Dreams' by Miss Shiva. There were tears shed though when Fergie dropped his mix of Da Hool's 'Love Parade'...

They raved

Still... They came...

They raved

...They raved...

They monged

...They monged out

Beth
The sun was begining to go down over the Tyne and the crowd were getting louder. It was so hot inside the boat that it was raining on the clubbers, causing their day-glo faces to run. Finally, a word from Beth from Penrith: "It's been superb down here tonight, Newcastle always goes off and if you thought they'd be no party without a parade, then unlucky. I'm having the time of my life!"
