The Essential Mix Live from Telewest Arena
Updated 22 July 03.40
After Sea, Scotland Yard, Coxy at BBC Newcastle, then Jules live from Tuxedo Princess, you'd think it would take one hell of a club night to beat the weekend so far. The Essential Mix live from the Telewest Arena did just that. With sets from Seb Fontaine, Yousef, Layo, Darren Emerson and the almighty Sasha, the 8000 capacity venue went Love Weekend ballistic!
Seb Fontaine opened up tonight's show with Pete Tong on the mic. Seb's usual brand of hard but funky progressive tracks, including the King Unique mix of 'Virus' by Mutiny UK really started things off and set the pace for the rest of the evening...
Yousef was called in to perform the hot mix on Seb's show, and perform he did! Dropping funky, chugging house in the form of 'Mas Pito' by Mongobonix, ''Guitarra G' by G Club.

Next up was the deep and devastating End resident, Layo, who opened up his set in memorable style with the stupidly deep, throbbing, bass driven 'Audio Espionage' by Halo and Justin Long...
After half and hour Layo was shoved off the decks by an eager Darren Emerson. With a box of tunes that he seemed to be flicking through for at least half an hour, it was obvious that he had some real gems that he wanted to share with the crowd. They included X-Press 2's 'Smoke Machine', 'Sirens' by Tim Deluxe and as he handed over to Sasha, 'Scorchio' by Sasha & Emerson...
... at least Sasha was partly responsible for 'Scorchio', otherwise he might have had trouble following Darren's set! All was forgotten as his first tune kicked in. This was followed by a fantastic selection of tracks that included former Essential New Tune 'Black AM' by Watkins and 'Radiate' by DJ Remy...
After a short break to take in some of the tunes and atmosphere of the Berlin Love Parade, we rejoined the Essential Mix and caught up with John Digweed who, after receiving a huge intro from Pete Tong and an even bigger cheer from the hyped up crowd, kicked off the next four hours with the latest signing to his Bedrock label and former Essential New Tune, 'Lovely Day' by Brancaccio & Asher (Left: Digweed in a rare smiling moment! Andy from Global Underground not shown...)

In a break from the Telewest madness, we crossed over to, well - down the street to Shindig at Foundation for Danny Rampling and more of Newcastle's glammed up house lovers. Tunes that rocked it include 'Guitarra G' by G Club, which received at massive 3 plays throughout the day...

You could only have one man to finish off the night and that man is Pete Tong. He rocked the crowd with a selection of his choicest deep and devastating tunes to hand, including a full on Superchumbo session that included his mix of 'Sandstorm' by Darude...
