Tuesday 11th June - Sex Clarke Five

The Sex Clark Five are from Huntsville aka 'Rocket City', Alabama. There are only four of them: James Butler on electric guitar & lead vocal, Trick McKaha on drums, Laura E. Lee on bass & vocals and Rick Storey on acoustic guitar and backing vocals.

They dub their 90-second tracks 'Strum & Drum' music, and they've written hundreds of mini anthems, which have been covered by artists as diverse as White Town and The Dirtbombs.

Their latest single - "She's the End/ Great Sheiks" on the independent Huntsville label 'Records To Russia - is released this month. The album "Live at Confederama" - recorded live in New Orleans - was reissued on (Records to Russia) back in April.

The band are planning on touring Europe in September and will hopefully play some dates in the UK. (they say they haven't worked out the details yet!) This will be the first time they've performed in England since 1989…

They've recorded 3 Peel Sessions - the last one in July 2000. The band have always been inspired and influence by British bands like the Kinks and The Who - and the first song James and Rick committed to tape was a cover of T-Rex's Jeepster. For this session they decided to cover four Marc Bolan songs.
