You reviews: Jamie Kane
Jamie Kane Jamie Kane's back with a new album 'Sliver Of Light'. Vernon wasn't sure what to make of it so he ask you for reviews.

Here's the 'best'...

Track 1 - 'Pick Up Yr Radio'
Listen to 'Pick Up Yr Radio': Listen to a clip
Timbo
Swing your pants, people! Seriously though, what the hell is this? Is this the same Jamie Kane who sang "She's Too Intense" last year? What the hell happened since? He sounds like a ghost of his former self. Weird.

Mother Fooqha
Is he writing a song about sending text messages? What is THAT all about? Like Jamie's wafty bits in the middle of the song though.

Alana
Now this IS a bit of a new direction for Jamie Kane! All I have to do now is get my sister to buy me a copy of this, just in case anyone I know is in the record shop. If the rest of the album is like this though, I'm in.

Pukefist, Edinburgh
I hate it when pop fodder try to do serious songs. It's so fake! I could just about tolerate this guy when he was in a boy band, but now he's going all serious. Get real, Jamie-wamie!

Track 2 - 'Torn'
Listen to 'Torn': Listen to a clip
Kelizzz
sa ha! kane's dad's name is DUNCAN!!! I've no idea what he's going on about in this song but I know it's rubbish. like most of the songs on this album the lyrics don't make any sense. sum guff about his mothers wedding dress. And the music is totally depressing too.

Becky P
If you bother to properly listen to Torn it's obvious what Jamie's singing about. It's about his mum and dad's divorce and how he feels really guilty - he was talking about it on R1 the other day.

There's a bit in the song about how his mother's side of the family started calling her by her maiden name after the divorce, but she refused to change it, even though Jamie's dad was a real bastard to her. That's spot on for anyone who's had their dad walk out on them. I remember my mum's reaction to being called by her maiden for the first time and it really freaked her out. I think it's a beatuiful song and I can really relate to it.

Bravegirl
I don't like this new direction of Jamie's. I liked him for his pop stuff. And now he's trying to be all indie and sensitive about his mums feeling. And the result is just depressing to listen to.

Justin, Maidstone
How anyone can listen to a song which ends "When they gonna learn to let me go, or take me in their arms again?" without wondering whether the singer is OK I do not know. His mum and dad must be so hurt by this song. How dare he bring their lives into his? Doesn't he thin about his mothers feelings.I think he should stop moaning and grow up.

Track 3 - 'Thin Ice'
Listen to the 'Thin Ice': Listen to a clip
James, Stockport
Jesus! If you can get past the first minute of this song, you won't be sorry. Talk about brooding...

Amy
Er, he's not a happy boy is he? I like this stuff though. It seems a hell of a lot more honest than anything he's done before.

JK LIVES
Go on, Jamie! Emote your ar*e off!!!

Track 4 - Stop Throwing Things
Listen to 'Stop Throwing Things': Listen to a clip
Carl, Worcs
Wow! Jamie's grown a soul! Who'd a thunk it from a pop puppet?!

Gail
Ugh! This is awful! What a load of self-indulgent cack! Where's the upbeat pop tunes, Kane?

Karen, Stockport
Aw! This is lovely! Thank you, Jamie, what a nice surprise!

Gavin, Aylesbury
I have to say, given how everyone liked his last album, I was expecting more of the same. I'm glad this is different though. Yeah, it's a big depressing in places, but I'd rather this guy whining than Robbie bleedin' Williams. At least Jamie wrote this stuff.

Track 5 - She's The One For Me
Listen to 'She's The One For Me': Listen to a clip
Busfan32
So, he nicks the title of one of Robbie's songs, and the music from 'Everybody Hurts' by REM and writes a song about Lana. Is he trying to win her over with this dribble or what? It doesn't do anything for me. Where's the ROCK, Jamie?

Tiffany
I love this song. It's so lovely. I wish someone would write a song like this about me!

SlipknotTom
Ugh. This is cack. I've just been sick mum after listening to this. This belongs on Radio 2, or Radio Spew!

Track 6 - Tell Me More
Listen to 'Tell Me More': Listen to a clip
Worried JK Fan
Uh, is it just me or has Jamie gone religious on this song? "Is anybody listening to my prayers?", "Those healing hands that reach down from the sky"??? He's gone God Squad on us! NOOO!

Marcos
OK, this isn't going to get any cheerier is it? Who's gonna dance to this, James?! Somebody call the Samaritans!

Giselle
Speaking as a recently-converted Christian myself, I love the fact that Jamie has encapsulated the moment when you first start to wonder whether there is a greater force at work in the world. I asked a lot of the same questions myself, and love the analogy about nailing a ghost to the sea. I just hope he finds the same level of happiness in his faith that I have in mine.

Pophaterz Anonymous
Hmm, weirdo alert! It seems like Mr Kane is trying to set himself up as the UK's very own Kurt Cobain on some of this. He's even trying to sound like him. Give it a rest, boy band boy!

Tommy Boy
The only weirdo here is the one who's mind is so closed off they can't imagine the possibility of a religious side to a pop star. At least Jamie's trying to grapple with his spiritual feelings. Fair play to him for that.

Track 7 - No Way Out
Listen to 'No Way Out': Listen to a clip
Kristin, Swansea
This is so grindingly down. You have to wonder at his record label letting a song this bleak be released at all. He seems to really hate himself, and wants to die. And yet they're releasing the song as part of Pop Star Jamie Kane's new album. That's wrong. Surely he needs serious help?

Pee-Tee
I'm gobsmacked. This is by far the saddest song I have heard in years! How desperate does this guy sound? ARE YOU LISTENING, MR COWELL?

call_of_the_wild
Lay off the downers, Kane. You make Morrissey sound like H from Steps! Stop whining and do some proper pop ya whinger!

Track 8 - Pedal Power
Listen to 'Pedal Power': Listen to a clip
Ooh. Pretty harmonies. Reminds me of the Doves, only not as good.

Kev1, Carlisle
I can't bear it when pop stars write songs about being harassed by the tabloids. 'People' was bad enough, but at least you could dance to that. This is turgid, self-pitying, wet indie. Why would Jamie want to sound like an upset Keane? I don’t get it.

Michelle, Luton
I really liked this one. We all saw the pictures in the paper when he had that big row with Lana and she drove off, and now we know what he was thinking when the photographers came running over and got in the way. Another really sad song though. He's really not a happy camper any more, is he? I miss that.
