DJ DIARY: Glasto from the insiders
Circus tricks
Jo Whiley, 8:00pm, Sunday
Last night was the big night, certainly in terms of all the anticipation, with Coldplay headlining and Razorlight also on the Other Stage. It was great, the rain held off thank God so everyone was in a pretty chipper mood and when Coldplay took to the stage the sun was setting and the sky was just beautiful.
The view was awash with all these flags which was stunning! When Coldplay took the stage the reaction from the crowd was great, just such love for them. They gave it their all but I think you'll hear conflicting reports about what they were like and whether the set hit the spot or not. I don’t think there was anything else they could have done really.
We’ve been doing loads of really fun things such as tight rope walking and flame throwing...
Razorlight, I thought, were amazing (I was running between the two) which was pretty tricky in all the mud which had just turned in to total gloop. Anyway, Johnny Borrell looked fantastic in his white suit and they had gone to a lot of effort with their staging. I was chuffed for them! Waking up this morning to blue skies was…. well, let’s just say that I was woken up in my caravan by the sound of people cheering the weather.
It’s got sunnier and sunnier as the day has gone on. I’ve been up in the Green Fields and the Circus Fields and just playing with my kids. We’ve been doing loads of really fun things such as tight rope walking and flame throwing, eating yummy food outside the Chapel of Love and Loathe and debating whether to get married or divorced or not. Decided to stay married. It’s been lovely all day and I’m off to do some TV stuff and them I’m going to check out Rufus Wainwright and Bright Eyes who I’m really excited about.
Two Annies on the Radio
Annie Mac, 3:30pm Sunday
Last night I did a two hour show with the legendary Annie Nightingale! For the first time ever we had the two Annies on the radio. It was really special and turned into a proper little rave. By the end of it I was wearing a sombrero and jumping round like a loon. The show had the right effect on everyone and I really enjoyed it.
The Stone Circle is the most spiritual part of the site and also the highest so you can see everything!
That finished at 9pm and after that I just got lost with me and my mates just wandering. We did get it together to see Coldplay who were good but they weren’t great I have to say. I saw them here two years ago and they blew me away but this time I don’t think they had anything to prove and it makes it less exciting. Also, the fact that you’re standing up to your knees in mud doesn’t help. We lasted for about five or six songs and then I had to go to the toilet because I drank too much beer.
After that we spent the rest of the night in the hospitality bar with friends. Today I did the final part of the Magical Mystery Tour with Sara Cox. We went up to the craft fields and checked out all the things you can do. We finished in the Stone Circle which is the most spiritual part of the site and also the highest so you can see everything! That's it now from me because I have to go home today. See ya!
