Glastonbury 2004.
Saturday mudbath for festival-goers
Last updated: 26 June 2004

Glasto got a bit messy on Saturday

Many of the 112,000 Glasto-goers had to don their wellies to get around today (Saturday), with heavy rain hitting the second day of the festival.

Conditions are improving, though, and Sunday is expecting to see a much drier spell.

Basement Jaxx top the bill on the Other stage today, with Paul McCartney, Black Eyed Peas, Starsailor and Jamie Cullum among the dozens of acts performing.

Festival virgins Keane went on stage this afternoon. Despite playing a tune called 'Sunshine', it didn't get rid of the rain, but they didn't let that put them off:

"We're incredibly excited about being here, you know. As a band, especially a band who like us have been together for seven or eight years, your first visit to Glastonbury and you're actually playing at it is a pretty amazing kind of experience!"

Meanwhile the organiser of Glastonbury, Melvin Benn, is so pleased with the success of the festival this year that he says he'd like to see it even bigger next time:

"Our third year of it going really, really well, and yes, I will now begin to start talking to the local authority about whether it can increase. Another 25,000-30,000 would be very good. I'd be very pleased with that!"
