Annie's Glasto Tips

Annie NightingaleWhen it comes to festivals Annie Nightingale has had muddied her wellies at them best of them. So who better to give some top tips on how to survive Glastonbury. Annie will be live from Glastonbury on Radio 1 at 5am Sunday 30th June with Futureshock and Koma and Bones.

Glastonbury 2002 - Go For It!

Take your mobile - and dont forget your charger. You are bound to lose your mates over the weekend and the now improved reception means you should be able to keep in touch, or text one another when you have found an especially good tucked away party going on! There's bound to be somewhere you can power up your phone battery as well.

If you are camping take a flag or something else that can flutter in the breeze as a marker, which you can fly from the top of your tent so you can find your way back to it. I should imagine there will be quite a few crosses of St George, so come up with some different colours.

Take a torch - a little maglite that doesnt weigh much is fine.

Take a small radio so you can listen to Radio 1 in your tent.

If you havent got a mobile/are not taking one/it fails make plans up front to rendezvous with your mates at a given place, at a given hour, and agree to return each hour to the same place till you find each other. Glastonbury is a really big site and it can take you a lot longer than you think to make it across the fields.

Even if the sun shines really hot between now and Glastonbury it still gets cold there at night, more so if there's no cloud cover, so YOU take cover!!

The site has a mini-city of shops, bars and food stalls and there are also usually some cashpoints, but take enough cash so you don't run out, or to cover you in case the cash points run out - and keep your money safe on your body - don't leave valuables in your tent.

Even if the sky is a cloudless blue when you set off from home, pack some waterproof shoes/boots and a cover-all hooded waterproof cape or coat. Mud iz mizerable at Glastonbury, and also I think taking bad weather outfits can act as a talisman against bad weather happening... remember you are entering a weird and mystical world.

Finally - Just ENJOY! There's nothing like this event, and if you are lucky enough to be going have a really good time. See you up the green field!
