Rob Da Bank Interview

Rob Da Bank It's early Saturday afternoon and Rob Da Bank is wondering around Glastonbury handing out flyers for his Sunday Best gig on the Radio 1 Stage this Sunday. A few hours earlier he was chilling out the crowd with a set for the Blue Room. We caught up with him and asked him how his Glastonbury has been so far...

It's been amazing as ever. I've been coming here for ten years, I got engaged here two years ago and it's such a special place for me. The highlight so far is doing the Blue Room yesterday with my compadre Chris Coco. We went on after Fabio and Grooverider to thousands of people going absolutely nutty, so we gradually brought it down until the last person left the site.

That only finished a few hours ago. Have you had any sleep yet?
I've had a few hours. I was quite nervous about it. I thought I should stay totally sober and straight so one can of Red Bull was all that was fueling my fire, I crashed out straight afterwards. You can't do too much sleeping here because if you sleep all day you're gonna miss stuff.

Do you have an itinerary planned?
With all festivals I go to these days I go expecting to see nothing, and if I see anything it's good. Otherwise you say "I'm gonna see this person at this time and this person at that time" and you end up running all over the place or you end up seeing none of it.

It's a good starting point. If you go expecting to see nothing you can only win.
I definitely want to go and see the White Strips tonight, and maybe Ian Brown. It's nice just wondering around seeing unexpected stuff as well, in the folk tents.

Tomorrow you have Sunday Best. Tell us a little about that?
I did the last ever weekly Sunday Best club last week at the Tea Rooms in London, I'd been doing that for seven and a half years.

Was it tearful?
I didn't actually shed a tear, I think I was too drunk. It hasn't really sunk in yet but luckily a week after that I'm down here doing Sunday Best and the Radio 1 Stage at Glastonbury so I couldn't have wished for a better thing to do.

You proposed to your wife here two years ago. Anything stupid planned this year?
Yes, we're going to conceive here this year. No, nothing special.

Are you looking forward to Ibiza this summer?
With all the festivals I'm doing this year Ibiza has taken a bit of a back burner. Last year there were a lot of people phoning up saying do you wanna do this or do you wanna do that, there was a lot of opportunities to do stuff, but it hasn't really arisen. I'm doing the Blue Room live there which I can't wait to do. That will be on a par with doing Glastonbury. I think we're doing Salinas Beach. I'm really looking forward to it.
