Exclusive: No footie for Glastonbury, or is there?
Last updated 26 June 2002

Glastonbury. It's just not football.

Michael Eavis has admitted to Radio 1 that he would have shown the World Cup final at this year's Glastonbury if England were in it.

Ticket holders have organised a petition to have the match shown on a big screen at the event which takes place this weekend.

But the Glastonbury organiser, answering questions on Radio 1 Online's live webchat yesterday (Tuesday), said:

"To be truthful, now we know they're not in the final, we would have shown it. But we thought that maybe if England were still in, people would be thinking about the football, and they wouldn't have come trying to get in without tickets."

"We won't show the World Cup final now. The two interesting sides - Senegal and S.Korea - are out of it now!"

Michael did say that it might still happen:

"I might be wrong. I'm open to persuasion!"

Glastonbury opens its gates today, with the first bands performing on Friday.
