The PA's been packed away, the bands have left the site to continue the rest of the festival circuit, the tents gone and alas the weekend is over. Steve Lamacq answered your questions on Glastonbury 2002.
Chris Gree: What did you think of Coldplay's set?
I thought it was very accomplished. I think it was always gonna be quite difficult appealing to the entire festival site, cos they don't have as much material out there as other bands. It's not like Travis or Stereophonics who are festival kings cos they've got so many singles. They're headlining a major festival with one album out. But I saw the warm-up at the Royal Festival Hall, and you could tell that Chris is perfecting this mix of self-deprecation and sheer cheekiness.
He's always had it, but he's now so at home - he takes the **** a bit. But he'll take the **** out of someone else, and then immediately out of himself to follow it. But based on what they did this weekend you can imagine them coming back and doing a set which will rival Radiohead. The weird thing was that at the London gig they had big backdrops with pictures of the band as they were playing, but at the Royal Festival Hall they were just too big - it was weird. The new album is far more dense sounding I think. More complicated. I think they'll have even more success with the next album. It'll be interesting to see how they progress in America - they are kind of set up for it.
Fern: What was the best part of the weekend for you?
It certainly wasn't losing the table football final to Idlewild on a single goal! They have been goading this for the previous 24 hours. I said to Colin the drummer, are you gonna get some practise in? And he said, no need! And they spent two hours on the bus taunting me with the trophy they were given by Jo Whiley! But I can take the defeat. I was the first person to play their debut single, and saw them play at the Hope and Anchor - about 30 people there, 28 of which were mates of the headlining band. But they did alright.
Sally Cin : Can you complete your fantasy fetsival line up that you mentioned on tonight's show?
Dillenger 4, PJ Harvey, Ikara Colt, Death in Vegas, Vandals, Coin-Up, The Lurkers...
Igloo: Any idea as to why Kelly Jones has turned Stereophonics into a tribute band?
Maybe cos he's spent so much time with his idols. It was hard for me to judge their appearance. I'd be interested to hear what people thought of them and the Charlatans, cos I was on air at the time and I couldn't hear it all. I think the Charlatans are more a Glastonbury vibe band than the Stereophonics - you can imagine Tim Burgess being at one with the laid-back vibe of Glastonbury. It's difficult. You can see the Stereophonics a lot this summer, and you sometimes hope the festival will give you a moment or band that can't be replicated anywhere else. You go to festivals for those moments. Everyone's got a Stereophonics at a festival story.
