To put alternative comments in perspective...I have been listening to Subliminal religiously since Subliminal Sessions 2. At first Subliminal was completely groundbreaking, but after a few seasons, it did start to seem repetitive, but you have to understand you cannot keep up that level of innovation for life! Everything is more "Amazing" when its new, and Morillo with all his beat machines and repetitive vocals was New/Fresh/Amazing when it first came out, but after a few years we got used to it, so it became not as "Amazing" after a while. I mean even Sven Vath's Techno was mind shattering when I first saw him in Ibiza in 2001, but now his Iberian German Techno is almost Mainstream, where before it was underground....Good music changes our tastes and moves the pendulum of "Amazing" which Morillo and Subliminal clearly did. This set has Amazing New Tracks, and is a great Subliminal Mix, but many of the hardcore fans are wishing for that "New Sound" (Deadmau5 for example) that we once experienced with Morillo, and are sad to not get it...Same with Paul Oakenfold, back in the day with his South American mixes, etc...all new sounds, but then we got used to it and he is just Oakie now...I for one still love these DJ's and they will be some of my favorite classic DJ's for life, but you have to understand the Novelty of being New eventually wears off, not only with DJ's but even with your [Edited by the moderator] Phone, it will eventually lose that New "Amazing" feeling...[Edited by the moderator], and Morillo is still one of the best DJ's on earth!!! And thats the real...

Erick Morillo delivered one of the best Essential Mixes I've heard in a long time, and I've been following the show since 2000. The middle of the mix was a little more dull, but the opening 30 and ending 30 minutes are fantastic.

proper load of chedder cheese more underground in a bar in yer local town i was shocked to here morillo playing this kind of music it was totally and utterly shocking wheres the funk and soul he used to play hes really sold out like poppy chart dj sick of hereing electro dribble no art in essential mixes anymore they are the same most of the time big charty electro house wheres the underground carter sneak farina lost its cool when rampling left for shaw he had some deadly djs on and the music he played was wicked as well get jazzy jeff ,on maw ,adonis ,spencer kincy, knuckles tenaglia greenvelvet richie hawtin someone cool and underground pleassssssssssssssse comment proberly wont get put on the board underground house lovers u know what am saying

I agree with a couple of the comments on here,Morillo used to be all about REAL House for the Headz,he has totally lost the plot,just like Roger Sanchez and his last essential mix,i just don't get it.These guys used to be House through and through,get some proper underground House and Deep House on herefrom some Dj's that have not sold out. Will Saul,Ben Watt,Jimpster people like that and i don't think there has ever been a mix by the legend that is Larry Heard,you can't get more House than him!Now that would be special...

Echoing a lot of comments on here, I too think Morillo has completely lost it. When I first starting dj'ing in the late 90's, subliminal and Morillo were who I looked to for inspiration. This essential mix represents a catastrophic departure from the fundamentals of house.

What a mixed bag of responses! Personally I loved it, 2nd to last track 'Happy Piano' is a tune!! Sure its a different style to his stuff in the 90's, but music changes and i think he had adapted well to that. It's nice not to hear too much tech house, which, lets be honest, is taking over the dance floors and is getting a bit boring! His nights at Pacha & MOS are absolutely legendary - he must be doing something right!

I thought Morillo was a true house head but im getting sick of this tech edge on every track and also sick of radio 1 thinking that everyone wants to listen to it. Give people more choice of house music ie soulful right through to tech. Biggest mistake was made when we lost Rampling and replaced it with some poor show filled full of banging trance.

Erick’s 2005 Space mix is one of the best house mixes EVER! Not only was it relevant then but one could still play all those tunes & acapellas now and rock a dance floor in 2009 & probably many years into the future. This essential mix is technically flawless & whilst it’s very, very good I think lacks a certain sparkle to make it excellent. I was expecting a little bit more from Morillo. For me, at the moment, Angello, Ingrosso & Axwell are at the top of the house music game. Every time I hear them I’m saying to myself what was that track, & that, & that...that is the essence of relevance & brilliance. As Pete states Erick is a pioneer (loops, acapella's, bootlegs, etc etc) & remains one of the very best DJ’s to have graced the Planet. So all-in-all SUPERB & 9/10!!

This has to be one of the worst essential mixes of the year. Morillo lost the the plot a long time ago and this soulful/electro/tech/tribal is pure rubbish. This is a far cry from the early Subliminal sound of the late 90's. To think this guy used to release great records and was an inspiration to me back in the day. What a shame.

I'll give the man his due, erick morillo has been at the forefront of house music since nigh on its inseption, respect. but he does have a naughty pop demon in him, remember that god awful reel 2 real chart topper 'i like to move it', and im afraid most of this mix is ruined for me by him trying to sound like the swedish mafia.
