Gilles lounges in the Pink Teacup to eat soul food with Robert Glasper, hip hop hero Pharoahe Monch and the soul artist and producer of Solange Knowles, Bilal.

Erika Rose introduces Gilles to Bleeker Street in Greenwich Village and takes him over to Brooklyn ("like the city but hipper") for a free open air concert with Erykah Badu.

Taking the subway to East Harlem, Gilles visits Bronx native Stephanie Mackay. Francois K gives us the lowdown on Deep Space at Cielo and the wider New York club scene.

We wind up at another free concert: Giant Step's Summer Stage in Central Park with new talent Little Jackie and Janelle Monae. Plus hear Jamie Lidell's take on NYC - "It's like Cagney and Lacey!"
