This year marks the twentieth year of the most influential, most revolutionary and most dangerous band in Hip Hop. Back in 1987 Public Enemy ripped up the rap rulebook and used it to voice their anger at the state of America. Radio One speaks to artists both sides of the pond such as Plan B, Mos Def and Mark Ronson to find out how Public Enemy’s socially conscious lyrics and ground breaking production techniques were such an inspiration.

While Public Enemy have continued to rap about political issues such as Iraq and Hurricane Katrina, the rest of the Hip Hop world stopped talking about this sort of thing a long time ago. Tim Westwood tells the story of the group and traces the journey of political Hip Hop.
