It's 30 years this year since The Clash got together. With a new crop of conscious musicians citing them as one of their major influences, including Lily Allen, Jamie T, Gogol Bordello and Hard-Fi, it's time to rediscover why The Clash are not just one of Britain's best-loved punk bands, but one of the most influential acts to make it both here AND in the US.
From their ground-breaking fusion of punk and reggae which changed the face of British music, to the iconic status of Joe Strummer which led to heartfelt tributes from the likes of Green Day when he died in 2002, to the present day role of Mick Jones as music producer for The Libertines and Babyshambles, this is the story of a band whose musical ghost continues and continues to haunt the charts.
Presented by James Dean Bradfield it features new and exclusive interviews from Mick Jones and Topper Headon.

The Clash were greatest band of the post-sixties era. They had everything any band could ever want (in spades). They satisfy on every level. Even Nirvana and U2 seem deficient in comparison. The Clash's music and legend will live forever. No band ever had so much heart and fire and guts and talent.

I saw the clash several times (anti-nazi gigs etc..), and never failed to move me.

the clash were just in it for what they could get....

The Pistols started the revolution, but The Clash definately carried the torch when the originators were long gone. For sheer diversity, The Clash were numero uno. They weren't afraid to go against the 'punk' grain and let their influences shine through into some truly fabulous music that became so much more than 'punk'. This is why they're labelled - 'The ONLY band that mattered!' Joe could teach these young upstarts a thing or two if he was still here, cos he still had 'it' (with The Mescaleros) in abundance before he died. I've been listening to punk for over 20 years and i'll still be listening when i'm old & grey cos The Clash will live forever! Yalla Yalla!

The most memorable band from my teenage years, from age 13 I grew up with their music and their ideas and still dig out the records to listen to even though I'm now 40! The best ever.
Alan
They are still "the only band that matters"
Harriet Leeds
Awesome band... music today wouldnt be the same without them!
Luke, Tokyo
I grew up in a seaside town in the south of England, my wife grew up in the centre of Tokyo. The first thing we found in common when we met? The Clash. A truly global, influential band who stuck to their principals, and pushed music forward.
robbie, rome, italy
was living in the uk back then, a teenager, influenced by their first 2 albums, with all the political influences, 30 years on, still listening to those albums, will anyone be listening to or remembering the Arctic Monkeys?
Jono - Leeds
Best band I've ever seen and Bradford St Georges Hall in 1980 is still be best gig I've ever been to. They were more than just a group - they had a whole ideology that shaped me when growing up and still affects me in my adult life.

At the age of 12 I queued outside my local record shop, with a motley collection of fantasticly edgy looking punks, to buy White Riot on its release. That was the start of a love affair that never eneded for me - still playing the first 4 albums now nearly 30 yrs later. The only band that matters.........

the clash are a legendary band and loved through all generations - im 15 and i love them.punk probably died wen joe did, as now all we have is green day and bowling for soup to carry the torch, not exactly a good thing.but with mick producing the libertines i thought punk, well the libertines take on punk neway, would be revived, but they split, and babyshambles arent a patch on libertines. but long live the clash, they are the ultimate band, and they were simply brill
Sophie, Home
AMAZING BAND
GREG, DONCASTER
ONE FREIND HAS A MASTERS IN lATIN AMERICAN STUDIES, ANOTHER IS IN POLITICS AND EVEN MY OWN LEAVING A VERY GOOD JOB TO BE SELF EMPLOYED CAN ALL BE PUT DOWN TO THE CLASH. WE ALL REMAIN STRONG FREINDS AND STILL HAVE INTERESTS IN POLITICS AND MUSIC. DESPITE WIVES, FAMILIES, MONEY AND RESPONSABILITY. nO OTHER PUNK BAND COULD HAVE ACHIEVED THIS, SO YES THEY WERE.
deny - Leeds
the greatest rock and roll band of all time
Bill, Derbyshire
The most important, the most influential and the most entertaining for anybody who saw them.
Marc A - Knoxville, TN
"Come out of" ? You said it, mate. They left it all right. I thought Topper's comments about making stuff up in the studio was pretty interesting. Pretty funny considering former bandmate Keith Levene's experience of doing F-all in the studio with PIL, stumbling out records. Maybe the most important stuff either band did was tied in to the New York world of No Wave and Hip Hop, which was a damn site more punk in a single key than any of their old 3 chord groaners.
john mccabe leicester
pistols lit the match, the clash put the petrol on the flame, and it's still burning.

The Clash were the most important and influential band in the history of modern music let alone the punk scene!
Steve, Guildford.
No doubt about it, The Clash were the most creative, passionate, talented, ambitious and legendary band to come out of the UK punk scene.
G.I - Bristol
Yes. nuff said.
