Radio 1 and 1Xtra's Big Weekend 2011 Ticket Competition

Radio 1 Terms and Conditions (1Xtra's below)

1. The competition is open to all residents of the UK, including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, aged 16 or over except BBC employees, their close relatives and anyone connected with the competition. Proof of identity and eligibility may be required.

2. From 9th May 2011 until 12th May 2011 prize packages including 2 VIP weekend tickets will be given away during each of the following programmes:

3. During each show listeners will be invited to enter when a question relating to a Radio 1 Big Weekend artist is read out on air. Listeners can enter using the following method:

  • By calling 03700 100 100. Standard geographic charges from landlines and mobiles apply and calls may be included in your telecom provider's call package.
  • The registration period for entries will remain open for 20 minutes. Registrations outside of the period will not count. Please listen out for announcements during each programme for opening and closing times.
  • No other method of entry will be accepted. Only one entry is allowed per listener per programme.

4. The production team members answering calls will ask for the answer to the question given in the cue to call. If this is answered correctly, a set of pre-determined standard questions will be asked to establish the entrant's passion for Radio 1 and how much the entrant wants to attend the Big Weekend.

5. Once the call registration window closes, the production team will meet and rank entrants' responses. The top scoring male and female entrants will be selected for the on air competition.

6. Entrants must be available on the telephone number given to the production team. If after reasonable attempts an entrant cannot be contacted, the next best entrant based on scored responses (male or female, depending on the entrant who could not be contacted) will be selected and contact attempted.

7. The male and female entrants selected and contacted to take part in the on air game will be asked a further question to determine which will begin the game 'in control' by going first. Both entrants will be put on air to play the game. The player in control will be the first to hear short clips of singles by artists performing at Big Weekend 2011. The player in control gets 5 seconds to identify each clip. That player remains in control by correctly identifying the artist for each clip within the given 5 seconds per clip. If the player in control wrongly identifies the artist or takes longer than 5 seconds, control will pass to the other player who will listen to clips and be asked to identify the artist as above. The winner will be the player in control after 2 minutes of clips.

8. The prize will be 2 VIP tickets for Radio 1's Big Weekend 2011, Carlisle, Cumbria on 14th and 15th May 2011. For more information visit bbc.co.uk/radio1/bigweekend. Please note anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult aged 18 or over. Saturday night (14th May) accommodation for 2 people will be provided as part of the prize. 'Meet and greets' with DJs and artists are included in the prize. For the avoidance of doubt, the prize does not include any further travel or accommodation costs or any other expenses.

9. The prize is stated as above. There is no cash alternative and the prize cannot be sold or transferred in any circumstances.

10. The BBC's decision as to entrants taking part and winners is final. No correspondence relating to the competition will be entered into.

11. Entrants agree to take part in any post-competition publicity if required. The names of winners will be made public. Winners are not eligible to re-enter the competition in subsequent programmes.
