The Biggest Garage Band In The World

The only band to headline Big Weekend twice made a welcome return six years after they rocked Sunderland alongside Kasabian, Chemical Bros and the Kaiser Chiefs. Rope hit the airwaves early in the year, giving us a glimpse of what the newly-crowned Godlike Genius and his compatriots had in store for us, but Carlisle was the UK's first glimpse of the band on a festival stage this year.

Let's just say that Dave Grohl and co brought material recorded in their garage to the biggest stage in the UK and made everyone feel like they were at Dave's house, blasting Big Weekend to kingdom Cumbria.

I was there and it was great! and I'm actually the lucky girl who get the drumsticks at the end and requested more songs. I agree that most of crowd didn't know them well but the atmosphere was great. Maybe you should have been there to judge the quality of the crowd as we all had a great night ;-)))

Erm, does the BBC know it's using a picture from the Foo Fighter's gig at Wembley on their 'Foo Fighters perform Walk at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend' video? Sort it out!

I thought the Foo fighters were the best band by far on radio 1 big weekend , ive never seen them live before but always been a huge fan , i will defo be going to see them in there own gig again .....
I for one was dancing my socks off and so was everyone else having a great time .... there is one complaint i have though , in my time of going to rallys , festivals, concerts all over the country and a few i might add in europe, the loo`s were the worst ive ever seen , and having to queue for 40 minutes was just pure torture ...... sorry but that had to be said so someone might listen and next year they put more loos out for people

A lot of people had to leave because they had tickets for specific buses that left at 10 and it was a 10-15 min walk to the pick-up point - it's a long walk from the Airport to Carlisle in the dark and the same thing hppened on Sunday. Also there were a lot of people with children there - me included - and they reach a certain point and start flagging. Doesn't change the fact that this was the best performance of the weekend - getting goosebumps listening to My Hero.

right can we stop now with the boring "crowd was terrible" comments, dont think iv ever watched a live performance of any band online without some goon saying the crowd was crap.

majority of you are judging the crowd by the few seconds of shots on a camera during the videos and weren't actually there. Iv seen quite a few rock bands live and the atmosphere in Carlisle was great people enjoying the music singing along and dancing.

I don't understand why you's feel the need to judge the crowd and try to imply that you's are some kind of gig gods that rock out and go wiild when I would place money a majority of you are not.

What im trying to say is watch the band not the crowd and don't judge how people go on at gigs as if you are some sort of expert people can choose to jump around or stand still if they want. Have a nice day :)

They tore it up. I caused mild hell rocking out and totally screwed my back up. I was so glad when they played This Is A Call AND Tie Your Mother Down. Also pleased that they're playing the proper version of Everlong again, last two times I saw them they were playing the slow version.

Like other people have already said, they deserved a better crowd. But hopefully a few of the audience enjoyed what might've been their first proper rock show and will go along to many more.

Oh, and the whole of Monkey Wrench rocked balls.

"if you weren't there you have no idea how cold and miserable people were towards the end of what was a very long day for some people"

are you kidding? a free gig with some of the most famous names in music, and your making it out like they've just run a marathon in Antarctica.. if you can't cop standing up all day outside, let someone else go!

    Hi R1

Foo Fighters live performance at R1 BigWeekend

Please could someone explain why the Foo Fighters performance broadcast on BBC Three and on the radio is awful yet the DJ's all rate the performance. amazing.

I really like the Foo Fighters and think they are really talented but when I tuned into the broadcast I couldn't understand a word Dave Groll was saying. Yet other performers sounded very clear.

Were the sound engineers and DJ's listening to something else because this performance was poor from the Foo Fighters.

On a different note the performance from Lady Gaga was very good

at 15.28 Mr. Grohl himself somehow manages to transport into the crowd and back onto the stage instantly

I agree that the crowd weren't a 'rock' crowd but also in the crowd's defence if you weren't there you have no idea how cold and miserable people were towards the end of what was a very long day for some people. I am a huge Foo Fighters fan and I found it very frustrating to see this amazing band not being fully appreciated BUT at the same time I also understood that this was a 'festival' type arena and that not everyone will like the same thing, I personally couldn't stand Chase and Status but my friend loved them, different tastes. All I can say is roll on July when I will get to see them properly in front of a crowd that will appreciate them more. However, still didn't take away the fact that they were awesome.
