The Arctic Monkeys left those early starters on the Main Stage utterly gobsmacked as they kicked off Radio 1's Big Weekend 2011 with a storming set.
Can I listen to or watch Arctic Monkeys perform?

In response to all these 'teen girl' comments, i applied for saturday because foo fighters were playing. Arctic Monkeys were an added bonus. I went to see Nero and chase&status etc. Me and my friend walked straight past Nicole Sherzwinger (or however you spell it) and went to Vernon Kay. Guess what, im a teen girl, so don't stereotype us all please. Sorry, but it had to be said :)

The Veeman, You've made my night thats sooooooo........ funny and true apart for Plan b being "poppy" Ben did well with his language p&qs which i was looking forward to had to laugh at Chris Moyles saying that he'd been asked not to swear, which as we know and i personally love Ben Drew has naturally a potty mouth which is needed for his "art" made me giggle more that the girls were the ones that didn't hold back and went for it. Personally i think the "folded arm lot ie teenage girls were there for Nicole and Black eyed peas so fair play to them for holding there ground while the rest of us suffered at home making more noise than them and wishing we were them.!!! Sob. Tickledeboo xxx

I was there and I have to agree that the crowds were poor. That's the problem with holding events such as this in rural areas/provincial towns. I was born and raised in the area and have to say that the majority of people are more at home listening to 'donk' music or 80's megamixes in a cheesy club.
The worst reaction was for MCR; a band at the top of their game and there was literally thousands of chavs stood there looking like they'd accidently walked into a library. No surprise that the best reactions were for the more 'poppy' acts such as Plan B and Black Eyed Peas.
That isn't to say that the weekend (I went both days) wasn't amazing... it was, and I adore the BBC for bringing it. My only gripe is that a lot of people there shouldn't have applied for tickets, and instead stayed at home with their Clubland CD's, Henleys Jeans, Argos charm bracelets and bottles of supermarket cider.

Gotta agree with some of the comments below (about the crowd) - although you do have to remember that a lot of people were stuck in traffic still when the Arctic Monkeys were playing so the crowd wasn't as big as it could've been. I don't think the TV coverage picks up the crowd reaction though, I thought it was fantastic for the likes of Tinie Tempah, etc. What is annoying are the shots from the front of the stage where you can see people literally standing still with their arms folded! (what's up with people !?!)

I soooooo...... agree with the crowd reactions, I made more noise at home sat watching the live stream online when Plan B came on etc. What a waste of standing room for those who just looked like they didn't wanna be there, must put the bands off real shame. Artics, Tinie Tempah & Chase & Staus rocked. Can't wait for the movies Ben i do love a man who can multi task. Mwah x

I was there, personally my mate and I were extatic that the surprise guest was Arctic Monkeys, the rest of the crowd around us however, didnt seem to share our enthusiasm. That ruined it a little but we danced anyway and probably annoyed most people, if they didnt like it then they should have left and let us get closer and have more fun!!

Great set. They're sounding fantastic. Shame about the crowd. I made more noise in my car when they announced the band on the radio than the actual audience at the gig did.
