BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend - 9th-10th May Lydiard Park Swindon

Line up / The Prodigy

Overview

The return of the Essex firestarters is one of 2009's biggest music stories. A late addition to the bill, we couldn't have hoped for a more explosive end to this year's Big Weekend. Full-on rave hysteria and nothing less.

The Prodigy are truly one of the greatest bands that this country have produced. Have been a fan of them since 1991, they are as fresh and original as they were when Experience was released. What a stormin set in Swindon, they get better and better.

I was lucky enough to go on both days. Dizzie Rascal was best on sat. Akon came out and rocked the place (and jumped into the crowd several times), but the the Prodigy came out. Apparantly they blew a bank of speakers during the sound check in the morning! Then blew the set during the main event lol. My ears are still ringing! As for those who boo'd, shame of you.
Prodigy - yours was the best set. This was the best set I've ever seen you do. thanks -still smiling :-)

An absolute outrage, hyped up on Radio 1 for a month and we don't even get to see the full set!!!!

Most of the other performers have their full set on the website. I understand that there might be language that some people might be offended by. Why can't the full set not have not have a guidance warning like the Iplayer.

We all pay the license fee, and should have the option to watch a full or edited set.

Can everyone that is not happy with this please complain on the following link

Also the bass was so loud in the amps that car alarms were going off from behind the stage!

Completely agrees with CanonX above. This act was the one I was most looking forward to.

Yet, the measly 25mins I get to watch (say in Chris Moyles and Comedy Dave voice) 'online' does not include my 2 most favourite tracks on the set list.

I'm very disappointed and will be writing to the BBC complaints department.

If it ever does get shown in it's entirety I'd also appreciate that it doesn't get cut because of language. Programs on the iPlayer manage this. There is no reason why this can't.

I agree with many of the comments here, we waited ages for the "big chunk of prodigy" on BBC Tv, after a dozen plugs through the program we got 3 measly songs, and not exactly an imaginative choice.... even firestarter got cut with the program credits when it started to get too heavy near the end. How long did they have to organise, or even spare a thought to the coverage???

If all Prodigy sets were the same as the album tracks you wouldnt get the Prodigy live experience.

His "odd squawks" as you put it only help to enhance the atmosphere. The bloke is a legend.

Come on BBC, where is the full set. It's a bit misleading when on the hompeage it says watch full sets from the headliners.

For those complaining above, I have received a response from the "Radio 1 WebTeam":

I've investigated this and we have put the absolute maximum footage
online that The Prodigy will give us permission to use. You will see
we've now added the line to the video page: "Watch selected highlights.
Songs limited at the request of The Prodigy."

I'm afraid we aren't allowed to broadcast the full version, at the the
    request of the band.

    Sorry!

Perhaps we should start complaining on The Prodigy's website! It is ridiculus that they can perform at this type of event but retain the right to refuse broadcast of their performance!

I have asked for the line "...watch full sets from...The Prodigy..." to be removed from the front page for clarity.

I should point out that the final two paragraphs of my last post are my own comments, not part of the response from Radio 1!

Incidentally, Liam has just blogged on theprodigy.com (under News) - the comments section might be a good place to ask for them to release the footage.

He mentions that it was the BBC generator that blew, which contradicts the NME report linked earlier - I was shouting on the night for them to come out and perform an acoustic set!

I saw The Prodigy live at the V Festival in 2005 at Weston Park and they were absolutely amazing. I'm not exactly their biggest fan and don't own any of their albums apart from "Their Law" (the singles compilation) but that performance was one of the best live performances I've ever seen.

I don't think I'd go and see them again (in case it never lived up to my hopes second time round!!) and didn't get tickets to Swindon so was looking forward to watching it all on the website. What a disappointment!! I wonder what the reason is that the band won't allow the whole set to be played...
