1. Radio 1's Golden Ticket competition was open to all residents of the UK, including the Channel Islands, except BBC employees, their close relatives and anyone connected with the competition. Under 16's could enter, but if they win they will need to be accompanied to the event by a responsible adult over 18 years old. Under 12's will need a parent or guardian's consent to take part in the competition on air if selected.
2. The competition will be run a number of times in programmes between Saturday 3 May and Friday 9 May. To enter you will have needed to have registered online between 8.30am Monday 21 April and 10 am Monday 28 April. Everyone who registered to take part in the competition will stand an equal chance of being selected - no matter where they live in the UK. Registering also would have placed you in the ballot for general tickets to Radio 1's Big Weekend. These tickets will be allocated randomly, but weighted in favour of those living in Maidstone, Kent and surrounding areas - with a smaller amount distributed nationally.
3. Each person registering was given a registration reference number - you will need to keep this number handy and may be asked for it to verify your identity.
4. On each occasion Radio 1's Big Golden Ticket competition is run, a number of potential contestants will be drawn at random from all those registered and contacted by phone. If a person does not answer, the next name chosen at random will be called.
5. Each potential contestant will then be asked 3 questions off-air to test their knowledge of Radio 1 and Radio 1's Big Weekend. They may also be asked about their interests and hobbies. Contestants for the on-air part of the competition will be selected on how many questions they answer correctly and how lively and interesting they will sound on air. Only one correct answer will mean a contestant is ineligible to take part in the on air competition.
6. Two contestants will be chosen to take part on-air each time the competition is run and read a short story. They will then be asked a number of questions about the story in turn - with the person correctly answering the most questions winning the tickets. A tie breaker question will be used if both contestants are level after the initial round of questioning.
7. The prize for winning will be a pair of tickets for both days of Radio 1's Big Weekend in Maidstone, Kent, on May 10 and 11, together with access to Radio 1's guest area. If you are lucky enough to be awarded tickets in the ballot for one day and also win in the competition we will allow you to transfer the ballot tickets to a friend. The prize tickets may not be sold and are not transferable .There is no cash alternative. The prize does not include any transport, accommodation or food or drink.
8. The BBC's decision as to contestants taking part is final. No correspondence relating to the competition will be entered into.
9. Each winner will be notified on air at the end of each on-air competition. Their name will be broadcast.
10. Entrants can decline to take part in any post-competition publicity.
11. The BBC reserves the right to cancel or vary Radio 1's Big Golden Ticket competition at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, or if circumstances arise beyond its control.
12. Contestants chosen to play on-air will not be selected again in this year's Radio 1's Big Golden Ticket competition. However, you will be eligible for selection again if you fail to answer your phone in any round, or only take part in the off-air section of the quiz.
