Before you go
What's the most important luxury item you'll be taking with you this year?
A Handkerchief.
MC Rankin sent me a text saying it's so hot out there, it's unbelievable. Being a DJ with headphones on my head all night, getting hot and sweaty, I need a couple of handkerchiefs. I need bandanas 'cos they're bigger.
What 3 essential items would you advise people to take to Napa?
1. Sun block, you're gonna need that.
2. I suggest if you're a driver bring your licence. Coming out of parties during the night it's 'do you wanna lift on the back of my bike?' when people are a bit worse for wear due to drink. I've seen some horrific injuries when people fall off the bike. So bring your licence and get a car.
3. People drop glasses and bottles so there's a lot of broken glass about. People walk through the square in open-toe sandals, and you can imagine what happens. You have to walk with your eyes down. I've seen a girl almost have a toe sliced off, so bring sensible shoes.
Describe what your 'look' for Ayia Napa 2001 will be.
Dress cool, something to let the breeze through.
I'll be in shorts and t-shirts.
Nightlife
What's your favourite way / place to kick off a big night out in Napa?
Usually the Square, to meet up with everyone. It's the pre-party. Meet up with your mates because everyone can't stay in the same apartment. Make your mind up on where you're gonna go, and you're off.
Describe a typical night out in Napa.
The Square, the club, and then the after party.
The Square finishes at about 1am, so people get to the clubs by half one. It's a mad two hours of concentrated raving and then bosh, the after party. It's just like a few hours extension of the night I suppose, going on 'till ten. You get longer in the after party than at the clubs. The after party is held at Insomnia.
Which clubs on the island should you not miss and why?
Club Abyss, because for the last few years Pzazz has dominated clubbing in Ayia Napa, but Abyss has made big in-roads into breaking that monopoly. The Castle's really nice as a venue, as is Ice Ku. It was a toss-up between those two where we would have held our Dreem Teem night, but Abyss just pipped it.
Which part of Britain are the most full on party people from?
Apart from London, there's Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds, all the big cities. Not forgetting Wales, Swansea, and Cardiff.
Island Trivia
How does Ayia Napa compare to established 'party meccas', such as Ibiza?
Ibiza's number one, it's known for parties unlimited from back in the day, wicked clubs and the hours for raving are endless, going on 'till the cows come home.
I don't rate the food there, there's a lot of junk food, unless you go to Ibiza town. In Ayia Napa you get loads of fresh food, better food, and it's not as expensive. For an overall package, Ayia Napa's better.
Recommend your favourite bar or restaurant in Ayia Napa to us.
You've got a Japanese restaurant out there doing sushi. They do all that fancy stuff in front of you, flicking knives up and catching them behind their backs. It's not far from the square, but you'll have to drive there.
I'm not really a drinker as such, but I do have a little tipple at the holiday resorts. We stand outside Marinella's in the square, they play garage there. I don't even go inside, I stand outside to catch the breeze.
Have you had any Napa nightmares?
When you do quick visits. You might arrive on Friday afternoon, go straight to the club, finish at the club, and your flights in the morning. In and out - quite knackering! I like time to chill. Everyone says 'oh I wish I was a DJ'. They don't know the down side.
If Ayia Napa were a drink, what would it be?
A mixed drink of exotic fruits, mango, apple, and a little cranberry to give it a little edge, 'cos Napa's got an edge to it.
