Fabio and Grooverider at The Castle Club

Fabio and Grooverider launched Radio 1's Ayia Napa weekend with a two hour show live from The Castle Club on Friday night. One of Napa's biggest clubs, with three arenas (tonight hosting house, drum & bass and r&b rooms), plus a chill-out area on the terrace (well, the armour-laden ramparts), the basement room of The Castle was the perfect spot for some serious drum & bass business. We found out what the punters were up to in Napa, what their big Napa tunes were, and if they'd had any Napa nightmares...
That's right, The Castle Club lives up to its name with some seriously questionable architecture (obviously made a lot cooler by some Radio 1 branding!) With Luck & Neat hosting the garage arena, and Fabio and Grooverider in the main arena, this looked set to be one of Napa's biggest nights so far this year...

Napa Tunes: Hatiras - 'Spaced Invader' (J. Majik remix), Future Cut - 'Midnight'
Napa Nightmares: I'm not sure that I should go into this but we had a night where we got stopped - me, Grooverider and Spoony - at the airport when we were going home, cause they actually thought that we had something to do with some violence. They pulled us up and actually really mistreated us at the airport! We had to pull rank and shout out Radio 1's name and they let us go. But they were gonna make us miss our flight and everything and they were being extremely rude! It's one of those things that you look back on and you think it was actually quite funny, but yeah, that was a bit of a nightmare.

We came here last summer when Radio 1 were here - we saw Dave Pearce in the Square.
We love drum & bass cause it's mad, but we love garage too. We don't get this kind of music down in Torquay.
Napa Tune: We've not heard any new ones this year, but we love the DJ Zinc track '138 Trek'
Napa Nightmares: Our mate got a moped and fell off and broke her arm.

We're all garage girls, so that's why we're in Napa. We like drum & bass cause it's old school. Our favourite garage night is wherever The Heartless Crew are playing.

Napa Nightmares: I've just come out of hospital today with alcohol poisioning, she fell off her scooter, and she had glandular fever!

I came down for a 1 week break from university and am having a wild time. I first came here six years ago and it's totally changed. I prefer r&b, but I'm trying every different type of music. I've been to Abyss, The Castle Club, The Gas Club... I've only been here two days and I'm exhausted!

Napa Nightmare: I've seen two guys run into each other on a scooter, which was pretty nasty, so I'm avoiding that by walking everywhere this year!

We don't like Napa for the garage, but for the deep house. We're always at The Castle Club because there's variety - if you don't like the music in one room, then just move to another.
Napa Nightmares: The Cypriots! Some of them mess things up, because they're protective of their home town and so have bad attitudes towards the tourists. We're from Cyprus, and we've never had any problems with the tourists, but some Cypriots like to cause trouble.

We've been to The Gas Club and this one. We're in to drum & bass. We heard Fabio & Grooverider are down here, so we had to come down to have it!
Napa Tune: No tunes are standing out, but we're bang into MC Moose tonight.
Napa Nightmares: I've burnt my legs big time, and we also went on the Banana Boat today and fell off that. I've been here for two days and lost two keys for the hotel too!

Napa Nightmare: Quick visits. You might arrive on Friday afternoon, go straight to the club, finish at the club, and your flight's in the morning. In and out - quite knackering! I like time to chill. Everyone says "Oh I wish I was a DJ", but they don't know the down side!
