What went on in 2009?

Radio 1 studio

For one week in December 2009 it was Access All Areas at Radio 1 - we gave you unparalleled behind-the-scenes access to Radio 1 HQ.

On Monday we revealed live webcams in the on-air studios, the Live Lounge, production offices and even the Radio 1 reception area!

We'll asked staff to publish status updates about their day so you get an idea of the work people get up to!

Radio 1 Controller Andy Parfitt answered questions in a live webchat and we also had an online paparazzi gallery with a pap taking snaps of everyone coming in and out of Yalding House.

On Tuesday, we launched the Tinsel Takeover - giving you the chance to be one of Radio 1's Christmas Day DJs. We also asked our DJs to chat online with you to get tips on how to be a DJ.

Wedndesday was all about how we pick the music played on Radio 1, with an online video guide on how we pick the playlist. Plus 'Timmy Trendy' made a bid for his own record to make the playlist (he failed). There was then a live webchat with Head of Music, George.

On Thursday we broke the last taboo of radio: listeners could go online between 4-7pm and hear what Scott's team said when the records were playing?!

Finally, on Friday we had a live webchat with Pink (during the broadcast of her gig), and a full day of free picture messaging - listeners could a send pic to 81199 for FREE and see themselves on something very cool on the Radio 1 website.

How it happened

Throughout the week, we posted regular updates from staff within the building and did a few web chats too. Scroll through the box below to experience it as it happened.
