Changes to radio in BBC iPlayer

Last updated: 27 November 2008

We've made some exciting changes to the way that you listen to radio online. A brand new version of BBC iPlayer has now been launched at bbc.co.uk/iplayer, where you will find radio and television programmes from the past seven days listed together.
Listen to radio in BBC iPlayer
As of 27 November 2008,  all BBC live and on-demand radio content, including English local radio, can be found in one place in the BBC iPlayer.

Here are some improvements to look and listen out for in the BBC iPlayer:

• Better sound quality (if you're listening in the UK).

• You no longer need to install RealPlayer to use Listen Again (in the UK)

• Better controls – you can now rewind and fast forward freely using a handy slider.

• Dynamic recommendations of other programmes offered as part of the player.

• Rather than browse through links to available programmes in the pop-out player, you can now find these as part of the BBC iPlayer website, on radio station websites, and at bbc.co.uk/programmes.

Exploring BBC iPlayer

In addition to the changes to the listening experience, there is also a whole new way to explore and discover radio and TV programmes in the new BBC iPlayer website. This is the first time that radio and TV has all been in one place. See below for a screenshot of the homepage.

• Find radio programmes by category as well as by station, and choose to see just radio, just TV or all programmes listed together.

• Browse the schedules of all the national radio stations.

• See the most popular programmes – updated every 10 minutes.

• Resume where you left off: the BBC iPlayer will remember what programmes you've played recently, so if you don't finish something, it'll be ready to resume next time you visit (UK only via Flash).

• Once you've found the station or programme you want to listen to you can play the audio there, or launch the pop-out player and move on to visit other websites.
