Young Composers' Competition 2008

Inspire

Young Composer workshops

Now in its tenth year, the prestigious BBC Proms Inspire Young Composers' Competition gives young composers aged 12-18 a chance to get their music heard by a wider audience. There are no restrictions on the type of music submitted - it can be classical, jazz, pop, instrumental, vocal, anything you like. The only condition is that it has to be written down, as someone else will perform it if you get to the final.

Chosen by a panel of expert judges, the winning compositions were performed at the Young Composers' Concert on 6 August and broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on 8 August. Each winner receives a commission to be performed and recorded by BBC musicians at the 2009 Inspire events, and they will work with top composers and musicians in a series of workshops to develop their commission.
