Marking the centenary of Rimsky-Korsakov's death (see Prom 35), and concluding a trio of short operas at this year's Proms (see Prom 34 & Prom 47), Vladimir Jurowski conducts the Russian composer's rarely heard opera about the evil wizard Kashchey.
In the second half comes the ballet that Rimsky-Korsakov's pupil Igor Stravinsky wrote eight years later for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, which also enters into Kashchey's magical realm.

A superb combination of quality singing, orchestral precision and inspired conducting by Vladimir Jurowski. Outstanding!
