Karlheinz Stockhausen (1928-2007). German composer. Widely recognised as one of the most important and controversial composers of the 20th century.

Miles Davis (1926-1991) Trumpeter, bandleader and composer. One of the most distinguished and innovative jazz musicians of the latter half of the 20th century.

Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971). Russian composer. Named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.

What are Inspire and the Young Composers' Competition?

If you’re aged 12–18 and you write your own, original music, Inspire is here to kick-start your career as a composer! Brought to you by the BBC Proms, and incorporating the Young Composers’ Competition, Inspire is a scheme that will provide you with a friendly environment in which to share ideas, participate in workshops, meet other young composers, get feedback and develop your musical creativity. Best of all, it’s all free!
