A leading interpreter of the Austro-German symphonic repertory, Kurt Masur
spends his 80th birthday at the Proms in
a unique collaboration between the British
and French orchestras with which he holds
principal conductor positions. While
Bruckner's magnificent Seventh Symphony
contains a memorial to Wagner,
Tchaikovsky's lyrically flowing Serenade,
written 'from inner compulsion', was
intended as a tribute to Mozart.
