Broadcasts
Broadcast on BBC FOUR Antonio Pappano, best known in the UK as the Music Director of the Royal Opera, brings his Rome orchestra to the Proms with an eclectic exploration of two works by fellow Italians. Rossini's operatic setting of the Stabat mater with a young all-star cast contrasts with a seminal work by Berio, in which the composer audaciously reflects and reinterprets the music of the past. The Swingle Singers – who gave the Sinfonia's UK premiere at the Proms in 1969 – lend both virtuosity and authenticity.
