Interactive TV Services for 2007

For most televised Proms on BBC ONE, BBC TWO and BBC FOUR, digital TV viewers can press the red button on their remote control to access programme notes during each performance of the Proms.

Proms Programme Notes on Digital Television

These programme notes provide viewers with an in-depth guide to the music as it is being performed. The information will include:

  • biographical information about the composer
  • the inspiration, origin, influences and status of the work
  • contextual references (i.e. political and cultural events influencing the creation or performance of the work)
  • historical information on past performances of the work
  • explanation of the structure of the work (e.g. what is a symphony; why are keys important)
  • specific interesting features of the music (e.g. certain things to listen out for in the score)

Last Night of the Proms Interactive Services

On the Last Night of the Proms, digital television viewers can choose whether to watch the concert in the Royal Albert Hall or live footage from Proms in the Park concerts around the UK.
