Maren Hofmeister has been the casting manager at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Berlin, since she joined for the 2010/2011 Season.

Born in Braunschweig, Germany, she studied at Leipzig University and holds a degree in musicology and communication studies. During her time at university she worked as a freelance for German television broadcast companies and was part of the editorial office for opera and concert broadcasts. After graduating, she worked in the artistic office at the Aalto Theater in Essen where, as personal assistant to the Artistic Director and General Music Director, she developed and organized the concert season. She also assisted with opera planning and casting.

For four years, when Jürgen Flimm was the Director, she worked in the music theatre department of the artistic office at the RuhrTriennale planning the opera productions and contracting the artistic teams for the festival season.

From October 2008 until October 2010 she was artistic assistant to the Artistic Director of the Salzburg Festival and managed the Young Singers Project. She created and developed in collaboration with the Artistic Director events promoting the interest and involvement of the Salzburg community. She also worked as dramaturg for the production of “Moïse et Pharaon” and moderated introductory talks for the Salzburg audience and sponsors.

She was awarded a scholarship from the Deutsche Bank Akademie Musiktheater heute for the seasons from 2011 to 2013.
