Emma 'Whirly' Tyson
Whirly is one of only two female students at the college. Ahead of her time, Whirly is the campaigning voice of the college – a voice some of the other students and professors don’t always want to hear. She is passionate about her causes but also realistic about how tough it is for a woman to be taken seriously as a vet in 1933 – especially when your own father would rather you just married a farmer and had done with it.
Acting since the age of 14 and trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, Amy is already a well-known face on stage and screen. 2006 marked both her television and film debuts, in ‘The Bill’ and ‘Pumpkinhead IV’ respectively, since when her credits include ‘My Family,’ ‘Torchwood,’ ‘Doctors,’ ‘Nearly Famous,’ ‘Desperate Romantics,’ ‘Outcasts,’ ‘Being Human,’ ‘Miss Marple’ and ‘Misfits.’ Amy is also playing the eponymous lead in the feature film ‘January’ opposite James Cosmo and James Lance, due for release in 2012. Theatre work includes ‘Six Characters in Search of an Author’ (National Theatre of Scotland) for which performance Amy won Best Actress in the Scottish Critics’ Choice Awards.
