Hugh Dennis

Hugh was on the panel for the very first episode of Mock the Week and has appeared in every show since then.

After reading Geography at Cambridge and performing with the Footlights, Hugh worked for Unilever while gigging at night with his friend Steve Punt, as one half of comedy double act Punt and Dennis.

After regular gigs at London comedy clubs Jongleurs and the Comedy Store, the pair were picked up by Channel 4’s Saturday Live and teamed up with Jasper Carrott for three series of Carrott Confidential for BBC One.

Joining forces with comedians Rob Newman and David Baddiel, Hugh and Steve created The Mary Whitehouse Experience, first for Radio 1 and later for BBC One - and Hugh gave up his steady job to be a full-time performer. Instant success and a cult following ensued, plus a sell-out tour and two series of The Imaginatively Titled Punt and Dennis Show on BBC One (Wikipedia).

In a long and varied career, Hugh has provided voices for Spitting Image, guest-hosted Have I Got News For You and written and presented more than 25 series of Radio 4’s The Now Show.

He plays beleaguered father and history teacher Pete Brockman in the much-loved sitcom Outnumbered, and with Steve Punt toured their live show Stuff and Nonsense around the UK.
