Shappi is an Iranian-born, UK-raised comedian known for having an opinion or two on everything from rock-star dating to the war on Iraq.
After fleeing a dictator’s regime as child she often brings past experiences into her stand-up, with her latest show, Dirty Looks and Hopscotch, currently showing at the Edinburgh Fringe.
She’s a champion of free speech for Iranian women and was once quoted as saying “freedom of speech is a big issue”. It’s a wonder she hasn’t been on Free Speech before then.
