A portable shower
In 1991, John opened premises in the West End of London. He is an author, a lecturer, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. He is also a former Chairman of the British Antiques Dealers’ Association.
John Bly has been working with the furniture team on the Antiques Roadshow since the very early days. He is passionate about the beautiful objects created by designers of the past and believes that we are still producing things today, which will please the eyes in years to come. If he was to choose his most memorable item from the Roadshow, it would be a portable shower that appeared at the Isle of Man back in 1984.
When he’s not working, John indulges in his other passion – jazz drumming. He regularly plays for a 12-piece big band, a swing group, a funk blues band, and a Latin band. He is also a very keen cook.
If John could pick one item he’d love to see at a Roadshow, it would be a piece of furniture or 'objet d'art' from Brighton Pavilion.
