As Shanghai aims to become a major global capital, Haining Liu meets the young Shang-hainese working as entrepreneurs in finance and technology. At one of the new wave of ‘shared offices’ she discovers what draws young graduates to study and work here and asks whether they can ever make enough money to stay.
Around half of Shanghai’s population are migrants who come here to find work. We travel round the city with the young delivery workers newly arrived from rural China and discover what life is like for those who come here with nothing.
