How the 'solar suitcase' makes childbirth safer
We discuss the issue of electricity across Africa and looking at the possibilities of improving the lack of access to a basic service. For pregnant women in some countries in Africa, an essential part of their preparations is the purchase of candles. Often there is simply no electric power in health centres and maternity units so if you go into labour at night, you need to bring your own light source. But changes are taking place in Malawi as our environment correspondent, Matt McGrath, found out when he visited Mphunzi health centre in the Dedza district. Medical assistant George Phiri showed him something called 'a solar suitcase' developed by the charity We Care Solar.
