Pulp drummer: Common People was a "tuneless dirge"

Pulp's drummer, Nick Banks, told 5 live Breakfast that he didn't initially believe Common People was a hit, describing it as a "tuneless dirge".

6 music listeners have voted Common People as best song of the Britpop era, something which hasn't come as a surprise to Banks, but he admitted to Tony Livesey that he initially told frontman Jarvis Cocker that the song was "a load of rubbish".

Broadcast on 5 live Breakfast, 12th April 2014.
