    Gunn asks:

What is your take on how the Pussy Rioters see themselves- as committed performance artists? -I heard their reference to Guy Debord - or part of a real political opposition that is anti captailist?
Mike responds: I think they would see themselves as feminist revolutionaries as well as performance artists. Thanks all for your great questions and comments!

    Jonathan says;

    Jonathan Green
Incredibly inspiring @PussyRiotDoc on @bbcstoryville with brave @freepussyriot a timely reminder of the power of ideas in art and music.
    Mike responds:
    Couldn't agree more!
    James Connolly
"@bbcstoryville @Michael_089 I thought their lawyers were dreadful. How is performance art hooliganism, for instance? #pussyriotBBC"
    Mike responds:
Good question! The lack of understanding about what performance art is in Russia was probably their biggest obstacle.

    Bob asks:

I wish the film had explained the group's thinking in choosing their action. From here, it looks like they played into the hands of Putin, and the religious orthodoxy, by alienating Christians, and "ordinary" people, who might otherwise support opposition to Putin. What, about their action in the cathedral, did they think would help their cause?
    Mike responds:
Their cause was to raise serious questions about the relationship between church and state and to that end they were successful. Their attention is not alienate, but to challenge society - which is what they did.

    Merle Read @MA_Read tweeted:
Was surprised at freedom you had to film at court. Are you optimistic re future of freedom of speech in Russia? @bbcstoryville #pussyriotbbc
    Mike responds:
It seems things are getting worse before they get better in Russia and freedom of speech is under attack in Russia, as it is in many places around the world.

    Michael asks:

@bbcstoryville They seemed very upbeat throughout the process. Do you think they knew how tough their punishment would be? #pussyriotBBC
  • 21 Oct 2013 23:56:38

    Mike responds:

I think they were under no illusions that this was a serious matter adn they were prepared for the verdict they got.

    Shaun asks:

Has a network formed around the film? and if so can that / has it been useful to mobiles support for the group - is there a #
    Mike responds:
We are working closely with and the who are coordinating efforts to help Pussy Riot. It is #freepussyriot
    Nathaniel asks:
How was the film received at Sundance?
    Mike responds:
It was received really well. Katia made a spectacular appearance in  live Q&A on skype and we won the special jury prize, so that was good too!
    Alex asks:
Has the film been seen in Russia - and what was the response there?
    Mike responds:
The film will be filmed at Art.Docfest in the first week in December in Moscow and we are looking forward to a lively reaction.
    Torrie Asks:
When will all members of Pussy Riot be freed?
    Mike says:
They are due for release March 8 2014.
    Michael asks via Twitter:
@bbcstoryville who were the orthodox men with the black t shirts? A particular organisation? #pussyriotBBC
    Mike responds:
yes they are called The Carriers of the Cross, but we like to call them the Biker Priests. They were friendly, but not towards Pussy Riot.
    Barry asks:
From your film it seems that the Pussy Riot lawyers made the mistake of arguing politics rather than the law, and got caught up in the event rather than the court case. Do you think the case could have argued better?
    Mike responds:
I think the fact that Katia and Masha and Nadia ended up sacking their lawyers probably answers your question.
    Hiral asks:
    Hiral @HiryPetal tweeted:
Congrats Mike Fantastic doc. Wondering, how did you meet them and if you are still in contact with the families? Great fathers #PussyRiotBBC
    Mike Answers:
We met them through the support network and through Nadia's husband, Peter. And yes we are still in touch with the parents, who seem to like the film, I guess.
