Stamps robbery

In 2008 Craig Townend and his accomplice pretended to be police officers and barged in to a stamp dealer’s house in Devon, escaping with his collection of rare and valuable stamps worth £400,000.

Townend thought he had got away with it, but he had a problem when it came to off-loading the stamps because he did not know how identifiable they were.

He re-invented himself as a fictional character but then made a foolish mistake which led the police to his true identity.
Townend was convicted of robbery and sentenced to life in prison.
