Republican message is not resonating with voters, says former Utah governor

Despite high unemployment and a stagnant economy, Barack Obama roundly defeated his Republican rival, Mitt Romney, in the US presidential election in 2012 to win a second term in office.

This has led to soul-searching amongst Republicans: vocal right-wing support has injected passion into the political debate but dragged the party away from the centre ground of mainstream US politics.

Former governor of Utah and Republican presidential candidate 2012, Jon Huntsman, says his party has to win back lost voters and reach out to new ones.
